Geil Astorga, BA (Hons) is a Master of Health Science in Translational Research in the Health Sciences candidate at the University of Toronto. She has years of experience as a Knowledge Translation and Communications Associate in a disability research centre at McMaster University. During those years, she developed and implemented projects around using technology and multimedia to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. In addition, Geil has completed coursework related to design, communications, multimedia audiences and effects, media production, communications research methods, and projects in translational research. Geil also received an Undergraduate Research Award from McMaster University that allowed her to explore the affordances of media for knowledge translation. She is a recipient of the Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master's program from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Currently, she is a Communications Specialist at a research lab at St. Michael's Hospital focused on tackling the issues related to social determinants of health. Her research background together with her years of experience and skills in strategic communications, marketing, and design will significantly contribute to this project.
